“You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.” – Buckminster Fuller

King Ludwig I would be proud about this…

Dear Andy, Felix and Bernd,

On this page, I will build the case for you to invite Dr. Mark Hyman to Bits and Pretzels 2020 September, and maybe even Gary Vee, reason being that I got inspired to execute this mainly via social following his example.

My intention being to start a movement to disrupt the “sick-care” model of conventional medicine in Germany, to give “food as medicine” a big push in the public eye and to support regenerative farming to stop climate change.

The last point really should seal the deal, Bavaria being the place of farming and agriculture and we could become leaders in this field in Europe.

And I can’t think of a better place then Bits and Pretzels and the halls of the Oktoberfest which was founded of King Ludwig the I, one of the greatest Kings of Bavaria.

Of course, it’s highly personal for me

Over the last years I have been getting media attention as a “biohacker” for getting my health back on track after severe illness. I was interviewed by the BR and Focus ONLINE.

The skill set and technology I used to get myself from horizontal back to vertical was based on studying the work of Dr. Mark Hyman since 2011. My background lies in Chinese medicine.

So I have been an early adopter of functional medicine since 2013 in Europe and talked about it every time I get the chance for example I talked about it at Startup Bootcamp Amsterdam 2013 during acceleration.

How this Idea came about…

So a few days ago I saw Gary Vaynerchuck talking to Dr. Mark Hyman via LinkedIn Live. To me, it was truly a life-changing conversation.

It inspired me to get Dr. Hyman to speak at a conference in Munich called Bits and Pretzels. Crazy? Yes. Impossible? No.

Right now, it’s just me giving this a go and I strongly believe it’s one of the best things we can do for Germany, right now.

My focus will be to show what is possible via leveraging social media and networks.

My LinkedIn post right after I saw the Gary Vee interview of Dr. Mark Hyman

Feel free to first check out my post commenting on the conversation on LinkedIn and leave me a comment.

Here the text for you to read:

THIS will be known as one of the most impactful conversations of the 21st century.

Mark my words… “Vote with your fork, vote with your wallet, vote with your voice, vote with your vote.” – Dr. Mark Hyman

I am making a screenshot for having said this as of today.

This doctor has brilliant ideas to tackle some of the biggest problems of humanity. Climate change. Diabetes. Autoimmune Disease. Poverty. Prison Violence. I

In my opinion the greatest doctor of the 21st century… Buy his book. Period.

And I am sooo pumped I can say this…
I got proof of having been an early adopter of functional medicine in Europe since 2013 and not a lot of people have been listening.

Functional medicine brought me from half-dead, back to life. I got the labs, I got the pictures, it’s all documented.

Fun fact about biohacking: OK, Dave Asprey coined the term and started a movement of biohackers around the globe. Few know though that the medical technology on the back of which biohacking is built upon is functional medicine

Dr. Mark Hyman has been my north star as an entrepreneur physician for many years and now the puzzle pieces are coming together.

A bit more on Dr. Mark Hyman’s Profile…

The info is from Speaker.com – his price tag for a speech is between 30.000 – 50.000 USD (so way cheaper then Obama…  ) Happy to get a crowd funding project going too to build more awareness.

Nine-time New York Times bestselling author, Dr. Mark Hyman is famous for making the connection between chronic conditions and diet and lifestyle. He is the world’s leading proponent of “Functional Medicine,” an alternative medicine that focuses on interactions between the environment and the gastrointestinal, endocrine, and immune systems.

In much of his work, Dr. Hyman addresses the failures of conventional medicine concerning how it treats symptoms rather than looking for and taking on root causes of illnesses. A long-time practicing family physician, he has significantly moved the field of functional medicine forward, helping it to gain recognition and making it a greater part of mainstream medical care not only in the US, but around the world as well.

Dr. Hyman is the Director the Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine, where he oversees scientific research in the field of functional medicine. He is also the founder and medical director of The UltraWellness Center, chairman of the board of the Institute for Functional Medicine, a medical editor of The Huffington Post, and has been a regular medical contributor on many television shows including CBS This Morning, Today Show, The View, Katie, and The Dr. Oz Show.

A health advisor to the Clintons, he has testified before the United States Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions on integrative medical care. Dr. Hyman crafted and helped introduce the Take Back Your Health Act of 2009 to the United States Senate to provide for reimbursement of lifestyle treatment of chronic disease. Recently, he helped introduce the ENRICH Act into Congress to fund nutrition in medical education.

Guys… this Dr. is the real deal. We need this in Germany as well.

Why systems thinking in medicine is the next new frontier in healthcare

After watching the talk between Gary Vee and Mark you will quickly understand that some of our biggest problems in healthcare, food production and climate change management are systems dependent.

The biggest denominator for a drastic increase in chronic sicknesses in society, sky-rocketing healthcare costs and accelerating climate change is actually what we put on our fork on a daily level.

“Food as medicine” is the backbone of Functional Medicine, which was created by Dr. Jeffrey Bland, the Founder of the Institute of Functional Medicine.

So Dr. Mark Hyman suggests empowering the consumer in making better food choices via supporting regenerative farming practices and stopping to buy fast food and overly factory processed foods.

At the Cleveland Clinic of Ohio, one of the most prestigious medical institutions in the world, it has been proven through research that a functional medicine approach is more cost-effective than conventional medicine.

So what is functional medicine then?

In this talk, you can learn what Functional Medicine is about. In short “Functional Medicine is the opposite of Dysfunctional Medicine“.

It is a truly systems-oriented way of creating health, as opposed to treating disease..

Dr. Jeffrey Bland calls functional medicine a “highly disruptive medical technology that aims to bring down the tyranny of the diagnosis.

It really is the most comprehensive approach of practicing medicine for chronic disease treatment or for the creation of optimum health.

Why Dr. Mark Hyman should speak at Bits and Pretzels 2020 in Munich

So for what reason should Dr. Mark Hyman, a physician, speak at a tech conference gathering with the best and brightest of the German tech Eco-System?

First, because Functional Medicine is a highly disruptive new medical technology that needs the right players, infrastructure and stakeholders to “early adopt” this very new way of doing medicine.

Many new diagnostic technologies would need to be transferred from the US into Germany or being developed here. Key technologies in this area would be for example diagnostic, nutrigenomic and metabolomic testing technology.

Dr. Mark Hyman is a staunch advocate to bring functional medicine into the public domain, and he has been working on every level to make it happen in the United States.

As a highly accomplished entrepreneur physician he understands the perspectives of politicians, physicians, patients, entrepreneurs, scientists and corporations.

On top of this he leverages digital means of communication in a conscious way to scale his reach fast with precision, strategy and incredible skill.

He is truly one of the finest doctors in the world who leverages digital to solve some of the most complex problems in US society that are systems dependent.

Being an early adopter for a new disruptive medical approach

In some regards I was very fortunate that I got quite sick in 2012, and so I needed to find solutions to my own health challenges.

Functional Medicine gave me a road map from chronic sickness back to health.

Having been in Europe, in which Functional Medicine is a totally unknown medical approach made it challenging to execute the treatment approach.

I was able to order diagnostic tests and products from overseas.

When working with doctors at times I had to come up with a story to get the test I wanted and needed, and got them done. This is how I “hacked the system”.

Being a medical practitioner  myself helped me to keep going through tough times but today I am symptom free and still getting stronger.

Going through this journey as an early adopter of functional medicine in Europe made me resourceful, innovative and independent.

I know deep down that this is going to be the medicine of the 21st century.

It is a truly humane approach to treating a patient as a human being as opposed to being treated as a broken object with a disease.

The 21st century gives us the opportunity to practice true “healthcare”.

Purpose: My documented Journey of Getting it Done

Below I will document my journey of getting the right people together making it a reality of Dr. Mark Hyman speaking at Bits and Pretzels in October 2020.
